About My Involvement With Serious Games:
My role as Director of Marketing for Archimage, Inc. and its subsidiary, Playnormous, LLC, is to foster business development and public relations by acting as a liaison between the worlds of healthcare and design. I am the project director and producer for several serious game projects, and work with research institutions like Baylor College of Medicine and the Abramson Center for the Future of Health. Much of my time is spent writing game content, creating marketing materials, drafting press releases, blogging, and sending lots and lots of emails.

About Me:
I graduated a Lewis Scholar from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. I went on to earn a Master of Public Health in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. While at the UTHSC, I was the Research Assistant for the Accolade Award-winning, NIH-funded multimedia project HEADS UP and the Production Coordinator for the HEADS UP Virtual Molecular Biology Lab, a computer-based Serious Game program for advanced high school students. It was here that I was introduced to the world of Serious Games for Health. I completed my MPH right as Houston’s own rock stars in the Serious Games movement, a design company called Archimage, Inc., happened to need a Director of Marketing. I was hired immediately and now have the privilege of working with some of the best in the Serious Games for Health business.

Serious Games for Health by Archimage and Playnormous

ESCAPE FROM DIAB
Escape from Diab is a serious video game adventure in healthy eating and exercise which focuses on obesity and type 2 diabetes prevention. The game combines character-driven storytelling, 3D computer animation, and health-focused game play with evidence-based behavior modification theories. The story centers around five children who must get healthy enough to escape the evil King Etes and reach the mythical Golden City. Over 60 minutes of computer animated cutscenes guide the player through goal setting, problem solving, energy balance, and other gameplay activities.

NANOSWARM: INVASION FROM INNER SPACE
Nanoswarm: Invasion from Inner Space is a role-playing PC adventure where the videogame player, nicknamed Wings, must set and achieve real life goals to eat more fruit and vegetables and be physically active to win. Gameplay is combined with blue-screen cut scenes which immerse the player in a rich storyline of four teenage scientists in the year 2030 who must pilot a microscopic ship through the body of their friend, Fred, in order to save the world from a plague that threatens the health of the global community.

FOOD FURY
Food Fury is the first feature game for Playnormous. This Flash-based online game that teaches 3rd-5th graders how to change their food choice behaviors using the CATCH method of food selection, “Go, Slow, Whoa.” Food Fury was created for Dr. Cynthia Phelps at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Health Informatics and funded by The Aetna Foundation.

BUBBLE TROUBLE
Bubble Trouble is the first game created exclusively for the Playnormous website. Kids and their parents learn to distinguish between different levels of physical activity by helping an underwater monster, Chicken Dawg, collect his aerobic exercise minutes for the day. But be careful, popping strength activity bubbles yield no aerobic minutes, and sedentary activities turn into rocks that block the screen. Bubble Trouble was created in collaboration with our partners at Baylor College of Medicine.

JUICE JUMBLE
In Juice Jumble, players explore the oftentimes confusing topic of beverage content by chaining drinks that contain 100% fruit juice, only some fruit juice, and no fruit juice. Knowledge of drink ingredients, such as fillers like sugar and high fructose corn syrup, is reinforced in a fun way using power-ups.
